The Summer of Two Casts

Do you ever have a feeling that you are just the worst mother ever? Have you ever gone through something traumatic with your kids that still makes your heart ache at the thought of it as you still remember the details of that event? I’m sure every mom has a similar story that happened to her at least once in their mothering journey.

I had such an experience 2 summers ago when both of my kids broke their arms a week apart from each other.

Walking Challenge: a Walk A Day In May

Who knew that a simple walking challenge would bring so much positivity and beauty into my days? I didn’t expect it, since all I wanted was to get outside and get some fresh air. But that’s exactly what happened!

And it all started with just one photo…

walking challenge

One day last month, I went on a walk. It had finally warmed up, and all of the people started coming out of the long winter hibernation. I was one of them. I had spent a lot of time in the last year or so staying home and not venturing out much. I had become somewhat depressed and partially lost, and maybe a little broken inside, too. But that’s a story for another post, perhaps. What my soul craved for was renewal, inspiration, fresh air, and more movement. And so I semi-eagerly obliged.

Mother’s Day Crepes Recipe

What comes to mind when you think of a Mother’s Day meal? To me, all my mom’s famous dishes immediately pop into my head as a reminder of her love for cooking and baking. Borsch, Apple Pie, Lemon Pie, Jams…Mmmm. But one dish stands out above the rest. It’s what my mom is known for, and it’s what I think of first when I think of my Mama. It’s my Mom’s Infamous Crepes. She makes them plain, stuffed with berries, stuffed with farmer’s cottage cheese, and stuffed with meat. All of the variations she makes are absolutely delicious. The good news is, crepes are not that hard to make! Once you get the hang of it, possibilities of serving them are aplenty. Today I’ll share with you my Crepes Recipe that you can make for your mom (or with your Mom) as well.

How to Survive a Snow Day

Another snow day looming… What is your reaction: jump with glee or cringe in disbelief?

If you are the latter, you most likely dread unscheduled days off from school…I know the feeling. I used to be just like that, getting frustrated and agitated because for a busy mom, it means…change of schedule! And that doesn’t come easy for people like me. I love routine. I love predictability. I love being able to rely on the known quantity. The funny thing is that I actually do love snow and winter in general. I don’t mind throwing a few snowballs and going down the hill on my kids’ sleds once in a while. Boy, I even love to shovel, (if my husband lets me :))!! So it really used to catch me off guard that I would get this frustrated when I got calls from school about a cancelation, even though I actually enjoy snow days.

It made me think about the ways that I can change how we do things around here, so it’s less hectic and stressful for us all on snow days. After some serious trial and error of multiple winters, I have come up with 5 things I do now that really help me to have very fun and low stress snow days with my kids these days!
